Not prepared

The advertising video shows a home with interiors from Ikea. The camera moves slowly from children playing to a woman lying on a couch and vomiting.

– Life is not an IKEA catalogue, it says on the screen.

Gangså says she does not understand why Ikea wants to promote disease.

– You can usually choose whether you want to expose yourself to vomit. When it suddenly appears in the media and on TV, you are not prepared. Then you can get really bad, says Gangså, and adds:

– They could have chosen someone who had flu or a cold, for example.

Advertising for sofa covers

In an email to VG, marketing manager for Ikea Norway, Celin Kjenslie, writes that they understand that the video can affect people differently.

– Our intention is not to offend or offend anyone. We continuously work to make commercials that are inclusive and respect everyone, writes Kjenslie.

She explains that the video will advertise sofa covers that can be washed in the machine:

– Many of our sofas come with removable covers. Showing someone lying sick on the couch is one way to bring out this benefit.
