The Ikea furniture chain will start buying new used furniture in the regions as well. There will be eight dispensing points in Pilsen, České Budějovice, Ústí nad Labem, Liberec, Hradec Králové, Jihlava, Olomouc and Zlín. It will also offer spare parts for its products. From Tuesday, the offer of used furniture will also be searchable online on the Ikea website.
The city where the people take the used furniture is chosen in advance in the form on the Internet within the Second Life of Furniture service. The service costs 49 crowns.
“Customers from the regions will no longer have to go to the department store to buy furniture. Compared to the opportunity to have their furniture taken away, they can again save significantly,” says Ikey’s sustainability manager Barbora Geršlová. According to the website, the transport of used furniture from Prague, the Central Bohemian Region, Brno and Ostrava will currently cost 500 crowns.
The agreed purchase price will be paid to customers according to the chain within a week of the product being delivered to the dispensing point, using an electronic gift card.
The range of basic spare parts for chain furniture, such as fittings or fasteners, will also be expanded to stone dispensing points. “This service, which is free of charge, currently operates at dispensing points in Pilsen and České Budějovice. We gradually want to expand it to our other stone dispensing points. Customers will find a cabinet with about fifty of the most common spare parts for our best-selling products, such as series. Hemnes or Malm, “adds Geršlová. Since last year, it has also been possible to order spare parts on the website and have them sent to you.
From Tuesday, June 14, customers will find used chain furniture, which in department stores offer spaces called circular mushrooms, also online. The offer will also include the sale of products that are no longer in the standard offer.
According to the company, it will be possible to book the product on the website and pick it up within the next 48 hours in the appropriate circular hub.
You can’t buy everything
Although Ikea has been buying furniture to a lesser extent for several years, at the end of last year it launched an extensive advertising campaign for this service. He states that its goal is to become a “circular society with a positive effect on the climate” within eight years.
However, Czechs in particular are still getting acquainted with a sustainable lifestyle. Many of them are relatively lax in dealing with things they no longer need.
As part of its Second Life of Furniture service, Ikea does not buy anything, and the sale system still requires, among other things, filling in a form via the Internet and then inspecting the furniture.
“We accept all Ikea furniture, except kitchens, sofa beds and mattresses, so that we can guarantee the customer his safety and health safety,” Ikey spokesman Petr Šašek told the online daily Aktuálně.cz at the end of last year. “The furniture must be in good condition, complete, clean and assembled. Minor damage, such as abrasions and minor scratches, does not matter,” he added.
“We do not accept accessories – such as tablecloths, lighting or textiles, electrical appliances, individual pieces of furniture – such as shelves, drawers, doors and other interior equipment, kitchen sets and their equipment – frames, doors, hinges, shelves, drawers, sinks and faucets, worktops etc. Mattresses and protective pads and sofa beds, “he added.
According to Ikey, the furniture must be non-smoking and hygienically sound. Bulky products may be rejected by the department store for capacity reasons.
