From Saturday, November 14, until the end of the emergency situation, the operation of large household and furniture stores located in shopping centers will not be allowed on weekends and holidays, the Cabinet of Ministers decided at an extraordinary meeting tonight.
According to the Ministry of Economics, the rapidly growing number of infected people in recent days makes it necessary to consider the possibility of taking additional measures for human safety. Given the wide range of goods that cover the sale of household goods, such as furniture, kitchen utensils, lighting, epidemiologists have recommended removing household goods stores from the list of convenience stores that are allowed to operate in supermarkets on weekends and holidays.
For the purposes of the Cabinet of Ministers Ordinance on the declaration of a state of emergency, shopping centers are buildings arranged for permanent and systematic trade with a total sales area of at least 10,000 square meters or in which at least ten traders or service providers operate in individual sales outlets.
The EC noted that the amendments approved by the government mean that stores such as Jysk, the Price Club and others located in shopping malls should not be open on weekends. Hygiene stores, such as Drogas, are allowed to operate both inside and outside shopping centers.
Stores such as “Depo”, “K-Senukai”, “Kurši”, “Ikea” and others with a total sales area of more than 10,000 square meters may not be open on weekends and holidays.
On the other hand, if the area of the stores is less than 10,000 square meters, their operation will be allowed.
The MoE pointed out that the operation of stores with an area of less than 10,000 square meters is not restricted and such stores may sell the widest and most diverse assortment of goods.
On weekends and public holidays, supermarkets may have grocery stores, pharmacies, opticians’ shops, animal feed stores, bookstores, press outlets, hygiene goods stores, telecommunications goods and services outlets and outlets for goods purchased in online stores.
As reported, in order to reduce the gathering of people, including families, in shopping and entertainment centers, where a large number of people stay in closed premises at the same time and there is a high probability of contact with an infected person, the Cabinet decided on November 6 to restrict shopping centers on holidays and public holidays. providing that on weekends and public holidays it is possible to purchase only basic necessities, such as food, animal feed, medicines and hygiene items, in such centers.
