The furniture chain Ikea has announced a discount. He reduced the prices of more than 3,000 products, by an average of 8.4 percent.
This applies to furniture, beds, mattresses, kitchens and selected accessories. For example, you can now buy some of the best-selling pieces of furniture from the Hemnes, Malm, Kallax or Platsa series for less. For some products, prices have also dropped by tens of percent.
Ikea, which has four department stores in the Czech Republic, practically erases last year’s price increase. At the beginning of last year, it rose by an average of nine percent.
The company justifies the current discount by the stabilization of the market after the pandemic, the strong koruna and the reduction of costs. “Across our entire business, we’ve been looking at different ways we can lower prices. Above all, thanks to the stabilization of supply chains after the pandemic, the favorable development of the exchange rate of the Czech crown and the reduction of operating costs, we can translate the savings into prices,” explains Tímea Münzner, Ikea’s sales manager for the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
In the spring, we compared prices in Ikea stores in neighboring countries. According to the website Peníze.cz, the Czech Ikea came out as more expensive at the time. The prices of the selected products were in most cases higher than in Poland, Germany and Slovakia. Now the situation has turned around, and thanks to discounting, prices in Czech Ikea branches are often even lower than in their neighbors.
We repeated the spring comparison of selected products and looked at the current Ikea prices in Slovakia, Poland, Austria and Germany. See how it turned out:
According to Ikea spokesman Petr Sašek, the discount is a separate step of the Czech chain. “Ikea retail organizations in individual countries set the final prices themselves, so the situation in different countries is different,” he answers the question of whether prices are falling across the board in several European countries.
The editors of Peníze.cz also approached other large furniture chains (Jysk, Möbelix, Sconto Nábytek and XXXLutz) with the question of whether they also plan to reduce prices. The answers did not come within three days.
