IKABI Launches Operation Site Infection Guideline

Jakarta, Gatra.com – The Indonesian Surgeon Association (IKABI) supported by Essity Indonesia launched the Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) for Operation Area Infection (IDO) on Thursday, (28/10). This aims to harmonize perceptions and uniformity of surgical management, so as to reduce the incidence of SSI in Indonesia.

Until now, SSI is still a serious problem and a challenge for surgeons in developing countries. In developing countries, SSI occurs in about 8-30% of all patients undergoing surgical procedures and is a significant cause of postoperative morbidity and mortality.

“IKABI as a professional organization for surgeons in Indonesia always strives to unite all surgeons and actively participates in improving the quality of surgical services in Indonesia. One of our main focuses is the handling of IDO or Operation Area Infections. [Surgical Site Infection],” said IKABI Chairman Andi Asadul Islam in his remarks at a virtual media briefing on Thursday, October 28, 2021, quoted from a press release obtained by Gatra.com on Thursday (28/10).

The Consultant Neurosurgeon Specialist also said that they are very happy to be able to launch CPG IDO as a surgical treatment, both for surgeons, as well as other specialists throughout Indonesia. “I express my gratitude and appreciation to my colleagues in the IDO CPG compilation team. As well as the support of our partner Essity Indonesia, so that the IDO CPG preparation can be carried out properly,” he said.

Andi said that the incidence of IDO in Indonesia varied between 2-18% in 2011. In addition, a report from the Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in 2013 stated that the incidence of SSI in abdominal surgery was 7.2% and in 2020 it was reported to be 3.4%.
