Footballers from Košice did not win Saturday’s home match of the 23rd round of II. league, in which they lost to Petržalka 0: 4. Already after the first half at 0: 2, their ultras fans, encouraging from behind the oval behind the stadium gate, encouraged them to take off their jerseys.
They repeated their request after the match, when two more collected goals were added to the home team’s account and an unexpected Easter debacle was born. The footballers obeyed them and went to the locker room without jerseys. Disappointed Košice fans then demonstratively hung the jerseys on the fence behind the goal. “We have to apologize to the fans and to all the people who support us because they don’t deserve it. Experienced players have disappointed, young people may not have grown up yet and legionnaires have made no difference. I take some things on myself.” FC Košice coach Jozef Vukušič said after the match. The captain of the Košice team, Erik Pačinda, also commented on the emotional expression of the fans after the final whistle. “They stressed to us that we are playing for Košice, not for a village, and we should stand up to it anyway,” pointed out a player who also has four national team matches and one goal on his account.
“I don’t know if it pays to evaluate this match on our part, we exploded in everything. We were late everywhere and we didn’t create any chance,” the Košice leader for Sportnet continued. In defense of his team, the 31-year-old experienced footballer added: “We’re in the process of building something and it’s taking a while. I understand people want us to win every game, but it’s a balanced competition. We have more young players and a new coach has arrived, so it takes time.”
The people of Košice have four victories in the spring rematch of the competition, but also three losses. In addition to the current “explosion” against Petržalka at home, they lost smoothly in the very beginning of the spring part in February with the players of Liptovský Mikuláš (0: 3). In the table, the charges of Jozef Vukušič belong to the fifth place with a deficit of 14 points to the leader Liptovský Mikuláš. The Liptovs defeated the players of Banská Bystrica 1: 0 in the duel of the leading position.
