II Games of the CIS Countries: Belarus Hosts Athletes from 23 Nations

II Games of the CIS countries are held in Belarus.

More than 2.2 thousand athletes from 23 countries will take part in competitions in 20 sports, which will be held in 11 cities of Belarus. The Krasnodar Territory is represented by 28 athletes.

– Kuban athletes as part of the Russian team compete in 13 types of programs. According to the results of the first days, they have eight awards, including four gold and four bronze. Athletes have already excelled in Greco-Roman wrestling, beach volleyball and judo, – said Vice Governor Alexander Vlasov.

In the Greco-Roman wrestling in the 82 kg weight category, Aues Gonibov won the gold medal, Artur Arzumanyan won the bronze medal in the 97 kg category. In judo, gold in the 52 and 57 kg categories was taken by Valeria Kozlova and Ekaterina Zhdanova. Bronze medals in the 48, 66 and 73 kg categories were won by Patimat Akhmetova, Yaroslav Bunakov and Rustam Hatkhohu. Beach volleyball was won by Arina Budzherak and Ulyana Beregovina.

– Competitive competitions are a great experience for our athletes. They compete with strong teams from 22 countries. The first days of the tournament showed that the Kuban team prepared well. I am sure that the current medals are not the last in the collection of the national team, – commented the Minister of Physical Culture and Sports of the Territory Serafim Timchenko.

The competition will end on August 14th. At the moment, the Russian national team is leading in terms of the number of medals won – 86 awards. In second place is Belarus with 55 awards and Uzbekistan, whose athletes have 26 medals of various denominations.
