Dozens of people attended the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Homecoming Day in Neubrandenburg on Wednesday. In the large hall in the House of Culture and Education (HKB), companies from the region introduced themselves as employers. Those who have moved away should be able to find a new job and return to their old homeland.
43 companies or institutions included
For example, visitors could combine their Christmas visit with the family with a job search on Homecoming Day. 43 companies and advisory institutions from the region presented themselves at the HKB looking for skilled workers.
Among them was the Neubrandenburg road construction company “Hüneke”. With the stand at the trade fair, the company wanted to win over “trustworthy” employees and possibly one or two apprentices, said construction manager Uli Lange. This is the first time the road construction company has been to Homecoming Day, but the company already has one homecoming person. Only recently, a former trainee returned to his training company in Neubrandenburg after a long time in the West, said Lange.
Good experiences from last year
Also at the trade fair was the US food retailer “Cargill”, which has a production facility in Malchin. For the company, the trade fair is primarily about visibility and recognition, said training coordinator Christiane Orlowski. But skilled workers are also wanted. “Returnees really come here,” emphasized Orlowski.
The dairy owned by Deutsche Milchkontor GmbH in Altentreptow was also looking for skilled workers. Through the trade fair, the company hopes to find people who are “reliable” and interested in the work, said employee Marco Kretschmann. The company was also represented at last year’s homecoming day, which led to several job interviews. The dairy in Altentreptow is looking for specialists in logistics, among other things.
Even if it’s just to look around
The visitors on Homecoming Day are there for different reasons. A visitor from the Rhineland was considering moving back to the region after a breakup. He visited the family over Christmas and is now taking the opportunity to look for suitable career opportunities. He said he could imagine returning to his roots and family.
Another visitor lives in Neubrandenburg and is satisfied with her current employer. Out of interest, she still visits the trade fair to see what other companies there are and not to stop there, she said. Career opportunities in the region have changed for the better, she said.
