iGreen: Sustainable and Biodegradable iPhone Cases that Grow Plants – A Solution for Eco-Conscious Consumers

The Italian company iGreen focuses on the production of biodegradable items
These include, for example, stylish iPhone cases
After they are planted and watered regularly, plants will grow from them

The topic of ecology and sustainability is close to many people, but not at the cost of reducing the quality of their life. This is not only why companies are looking for ways to create the most suitable product possible for people who think like this, so that it not only meets the demands of today’s times, but at the same time so that it can be used in some way even when you no longer need it. The company came up with a rather elegant solution Greenwhich presented its products at Maker Faire Rome 2023.

Cover with a surprise inside

Its products include, for example, a sustainable case for the iPhone, which at first glance does not look special or unconventional. But the opposite is true – as soon as you switch to another model or decide not to use this packaging anymore, you can plant it in a flower pot and let a flower grow from it. There is a plant seed inside the packaging made of biodegradable material, so all you have to do is plant it in the soil, water it regularly and provide it with enough sunlight. The packaging from iGreen is currently available in three colors, namely green (basil), light blue (forget-her) and yellow (daisy). The names are not just chosen at random, but refer to the type of plants that can grow from the containers when planted in soil.

The cases are completely made in Italy. They also have the Compost Home certification, which confirms their biodegradability and compostability. But for iGreen, this is not a one-time thing. “We started the company about ten years ago with just a few products and now we make over 50. Each of them contains a seed that allows them to grow into a flower or plant once it no longer serves its primary purpose.” said iGreen representative Luca Guerri. The company’s portfolio includes not only covers for the iPhone, but also, for example, pencils, furniture, postcards and beach towels, all of which are naturally compostable.

Don’t overlook

Apple as the green king: in ecology it is far ahead of the competition

The idea of another use for a smartphone cover is certainly laudable and probably also points to a trend that companies will increasingly follow. The question remains, however, how the cover is doing with resistance to falling or damage, or how long it will last in working condition.
