At noon, the three arrested, including two policemen, were brought to the prosecutor’s office for transporting over 100 kilograms of cannabis in an official Police vehicle in Igoumenitsa.
As can be seen in the footage from thespro.gr, their transfer to the Thesprotia prosecutor’s office took place under draconian security measures with the escort of armored policemen.
The arrest of a police officer and the private citizen from Albania was incidental and took place after a chase in Igoumenitsa.
The chase
Specifically, at dawn and while he was moving towards the city of Igoumenitsa, he was flagged down for a police check.
The police officer driving an official vehicle did not obey and a chase ensued which resulted in a traffic accident as he crashed into parked vehicles.
The service vehicle – conventional – almost disintegrated at the front end and came to a standstill.
The second police officer with whom they were performing a shift together was located and arrested in the area of Sayada. His involvement in the drug trafficking case is under investigation.
It is noteworthy, however, that he had left his service weapon inside the official vehicle that crashed.
A person from Albania, specifically from the village of Konispoli, which is a few kilometers from the border, was riding in the police service vehicle as a co-driver.
From the information we have is the man we gathered – possibly with other compatriots – to transport the drugs to a point near the border and then load them into the Police vehicle.
Inside the service vehicle of EL.AS. more than 100 kilograms of cannabis were found.
