Igor Němec quits CT due to fundamental differences of opinion

Former politician ODS Igor Němec at the end of August, he will leave the head of the General Director’s Secretariat Czech Television (CT). He agreed on this with the head of CT Jan Souček. Server information Neovlivní.cz a TV spokesperson confirmed to ČTK Vendula Krejčová. The reason is fundamental differences of opinion, she said. According to the server, the reason behind the departure is, among other things, Němc’s participation in the Patriotic Meeting in Příčovy in Příbramsk, where people associated with the Czech disinformation scene regularly gather.

The German’s possible participation in the August meeting was first pointed out by a former ČT councilor on the basis of a vague photo from the Internet Zdeněk Šarapatka. A CT spokeswoman subsequently confirmed to the Neovlivní.cz server that the head of Součka’s office was indeed in Příčovy. And she added that after returning from vacation, the director of the television will deal with the German. “ČT General Director Jan Souček and Igor Němec agreed to end mutual cooperation as of August 31. 2024. The reason is fundamental differences of opinion,” a spokeswoman told ČTK today. She did not provide further details.

Souček today on the X network stated that the CEO of CT does not go to political meetings or activist parades. “Not because he doesn’t have political views or doesn’t feel the need to move society in some directions. But because it would damage CT’s reputation as an unbiased media. The same must be understood and respected by those closest to him,” wrote Souček.

According to the server, the German former minister and mayor of Prague had a significant influence in CT. His remit included corporate lawyers who handle lawsuits and other television disputes with disgruntled respondents, including politicians. ČT journalists consult with them about potentially explosive reports. According to the server, the very engagement of the German in the vicinity of the CEO caused an uproar last year.

According to Neovlivní.cz, Souček already distanced himself from Němc’s statements last year, in which he talked about covid scaremongering and defined himself against NATO and the European Union. Souček said at the time that it was the German’s personal views that he did not agree with, and that he intended to talk to him about it.
