Former politician ODS Igor German at the end of August, he will leave the head of the General Director’s Secretariat Czech Television. He agreed on this with the head of CT Jan Souček. The website informed about it Neovlivní.czaccording to which the reason behind the departure, among other things, is Němc’s participation in the Patriotic Meeting in Příčovy in Příbramsk, where people associated with the Czech disinformation scene regularly gather.
On the German’s possible participation in the August meeting, first based on a vague photo from the Internet pointed out the former councilor of CT Zdeněk Šarapatka. Spokesperson of CT Vendula Krejčová subsequently, Neovlivní.cz confirmed that the head of Součka’s office was indeed in Příčovy. And she added that after returning from vacation, the director of the television will deal with the German. “ČT General Director Jan Souček and Igor Němec have agreed to end mutual cooperation as of August 31, 2024. The reason is fundamental differences of opinion,” a CT spokeswoman also told the agency today CTK. She did not provide further details. The German headed Souček’s secretariat from November 2023, he joined a month after Souček became the head of public television.
Souček today on the network X stated that the CEO of CT does not attend political meetings or activist parades: “Not because he does not have political views or does not feel the need to move the company in certain directions. But because it would damage CT’s reputation as an unbiased media. His immediate surroundings must also understand and respect the same.
According to Neovlivní.cz, the German former minister, mayor of Prague and head of the Office for Personal Data Protection had significant influence in CT. His remit included corporate lawyers who handle lawsuits and other television disputes with disgruntled respondents, including politicians. ČT journalists consult with them about potentially explosive reports. The very engagement of Němc in the vicinity of the CEO caused an uproar last year.
According to Neovlivní.cz, Souček already distanced himself from Němc’s statements last year, in which he talked about covid scaremongering and defined himself against NATO and the European Union. The director of CT said at the time that it was Němc’s personal views, with which he did not agree, and that he intended to talk to him about it.
