The press service of Concorde Capital believes that the detention is connected with Mazepa’s public position regarding increased pressure from law enforcement agencies on Ukrainian business owners. They say that the security forces acted illegally and aggressively, and the arrest is called the greatest blow to the investment market of Ukraine in the entire history of independence.

What is Igor Mazepa suspected of?
The businessman is a suspect in the case of the seizure of land near the Kyiv hydroelectric power station, which is being investigated by the State Bureau of Investigation.
Investigators believe that the businessman organized a scheme for the illegal acquisition of lands where hydraulic structures of critical infrastructure, namely the Kyiv hydroelectric power station, are located. We are talking about a plot of land in the Vyshgorod district with an area of more than 7 hectares worth more than 20 million hryvnia.
What was the bail amount?
On January 19, the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv chose a preventive measure in the form of detention until February 27. There was an alternative – a deposit of 349 million hryvnia.
Subsequently, the bail amount was reduced to 21 million hryvnia.
Igor Mazepa himself said that such a bail is essentially an uncontested arrest. After all, “not a single businessman in this country will be able to extract such funds from his business in a short time.”
And he noticed: the case concerned 7 million, and the bail was 349 million.
Briefly about the progress of the Mazepa case
- Several suspects have been detained in the case, including Mazepa’s brother. It was also reported that the businessman’s country house burned down.
- Entrepreneurs and representatives of the Verkhovna Rada held a closed meeting regarding the pressure of security forces on Ukrainian business. On January 22, the President of Ukraine spoke about it, saying that there are problems and they will be resolved at the National Security and Defense Council.
- On January 23, in an address, Zelensky said that there was already a decision of the National Security and Defense Council on economic security and stability.
