Igor Levitas on the LGBT* ban: Russia can only be congratulated: EADaily

One of the main topics in the media, somewhat pushing aside even such topics as Ukraine and the Middle East, was the discussion of the latest law adopted in Russia regarding the LBGT+ community. Still would! Russia has encroached on the sacred, on the main Western value – sexual deviations. But this is the face of the Western world – excuse me, the seat.

The adopted law was like the explosion of an atomic bomb – “queer people are oppressed in Russia.” I’m not sure if everyone knows what queer is, so I’ll explain. It is an umbrella term used to describe a person whose sexuality and/or gender identity is different from the majority. It looks simpler like this: stand/squat on Red Square and begin, sorry, to relieve yourself. A policeman runs up to you, and you tell him with all queer frankness: “It’s good to be a cat, it’s good to be a dog – wherever I want…”, and further in the text. And before he comes to his senses from your impudence, you add: “I identify myself with a dog.” Or he might say that you address me as “you.” Because now I’m not me, but we are a collective of psychos with dissociative identity disorder.”

Believe me, I walked through many of the sites of these same queers, and I realized that behind the stupid demagoguery there is not a single proven fact, not a single clear explanation, not a single common sense thought. There is a somewhat mocking sentence about artists who are unable to explain why the product of their work is ugly – “That’s how I see it”! So queer people say, “That’s how I feel.”

In general, this topic is long, tedious and accessible only to psychiatrists. In this whole wave of “righteous” anger that fell from the West on Russia once again, I was interested in the “killer” argument: in Russia there is no such registered structure – there is no decision on the creation of this movement, its governing bodies and so on, there is no “international social movement LGBT”*. But, excuse me, this means that there is no international peace movement, no feminist movement, right? But they exist! Both of them consist of many organizations, even if they are not connected by a common structure that leads them.

There are many reasons why the “international LGBT social movement” had to be banned in Russia.*. Of course, a line from a classical Chinese poem that I used Mao Zedong “Let a hundred flowers bloom” sounds beautiful and seems to call for pluralism, but… In a field where a hundred flowers grow, weeds will certainly sprout. And they can stifle the growth of real flowers. In addition, it was impossible to impose a ban on various organizations. For example, the gay club “Popka”. It will be banned, and a day later a new one will open: “Blue Butt”. They close it: “Pink Butt” appears, and so on. Banning the movement itself looks much more reasonable. For the movement involves carrying out certain activities: processions, rallies, recruiting new members, entering the political field. Does Russia need this? I’m sure not. I will say in parentheses that I am absolutely sure that no country in the world needs this.

As for the personal lives of these people, then V.V. Putin already said this: “Adults have the right to live as they want, that’s how we treated it in Russia, and we will always treat it that way: no one invades privacy, and we’re not going to do that.” In my opinion, that’s why there are doors in bedrooms, so that no one can go in there. But you shouldn’t take your intimate passions out into the street either. It’s funny to see a gay parade with slogans – we are being oppressed, and at the head of the column there is a gay prime minister, several gay and lesbian ministers, officials, scientists, teachers. Who are you guys oppressing? If you are in positions where a simple worker with a normal sexual orientation cannot reach.

By the way, all these stories about personal identity end with a conversation about sex. As in a saying from my now distant childhood: “Love begins with an ideal, and ends under a blanket.” And with sex, everything is very simple – a new way to have sex has not yet been invented. Therefore, call yourself whatever you want, but in the final stage of the relationship everyone comes to the same thing.

What are LGBT activists worried about?*+ communities? “In this case, LGBT leaders, employees, participants and volunteers are at risk of persecution*-initiatives”. Here’s what I don’t understand: I’ve slept with women all my life, and at the same time I didn’t need any leaders, activists, volunteers, or others. This was, excuse me, an intimate question. Why do these queers need so many helpers for regular sex? What should they do? Well, holding a candle – I understand that. Guide, support, activate? It’s all strange…

“Activists will inevitably be associated with some foreign structures”. Well, why is this? Does it really help with sex? Such a discovery is worthy of a Nobel Prize. What language will they communicate in, forgive the stupid pun?

There was some criticism and a ban on displaying symbols. They are talking about the flag, as I understand it. Why show it? Here, in front of me, in the window I can see the balcony of a neighboring house, on which a rainbow flag is stretched. Meaning? I understand when on the street, if road work is being carried out, they surround the work site with tape – they say, be careful. This flag warns about the same thing, or what?

In short, Russia can only be congratulated on the adoption of such a law. As for the far-fetched worries about oppression for non-traditional relationships, don’t go out into the streets to impose your deviations, and everything will be fine. Putin said back in 2014:

“It doesn’t matter to me what sexual orientation a person is. And I myself know and maintain relationships with some of these people. We have absolutely, I would say, friendly relations.”
