Iga Światek was the first tennis player born in the 21st century with qualification for the WTA Finals

Świątek was already certain of qualification for the WTA Finals when the leader of the world ranking – Ashleigh Barty – withdrew from participation. Tickets for the annual tournament are determined by the WTA Race ranking, which shows the position of individual players in the season. Swiatek ranks high, sixth in it.

At the moment, Aryna Sabalenka, Barbora Krejcikova, Karolina Pliskova, Maria Sakkari, Iga Świątek, Garbine Muguruza and Paula Badosa are sure to participate in the WTA Finals. Anett Kontaveit and Uns Jabeur will compete for the last place.

Debuting Iga Świątek is the second Polish tennis player, after Agnieszka Radwańska, to appear in the WTA Finals tournament. The latter even managed to win it in 2015, when she defeated Petra Kvitova 6: 2, 4: 6, 6: 3.

The 20-year-old from Raszyn quickly jumps to the next steps in her sports career. It is true that recently Świątek fell out of the top ten of the WTA main ranking (it is 11), but at the age of 20 she will play in the WTA Finals tournament and won the Grand Slam event at Roland Garros courts in 2020.
