Świątek went through the group stage of the Mexican tournament in great style. First, she defeated the Czech Marketa Vondrousova 7:6 (7-3), 6:0, then the American Coco Gauff 6:0, 7:5, and in the third match she did not give any chance to the Tunisian Ons Jabeur – 6:1, 6:2.

Sabalenka advanced to the semi-finals with greater problems. She won against the Greek Maria Sakkari and the Kazakh Yelena Rybakina, but lost to the American Jessica Pegula. Świątek has a favorable record of matches against Sabalenka – she won five matches and was defeated three times.
– It’s never easy in a match against Aryna. I will do my best. I will focus on myself and what I want to do on the court. We usually have matches that are really exciting and really difficult, both mentally and physically, said the Pole before Saturday’s match.
She emphasized that conditions in Cancun may also be important. The tournament was repeatedly interrupted due to rain, and the organizers are widely criticized for poor preparation of the event.
Realizing this, Świątek turned to the fans after the match against Jabeur: “I wanted to thank everyone for coming. The conditions are so difficult that without you I don’t know if we would have found the motivation to play.
