Iga Świątek – Anna Schmiedlova. Who won? What was the result? Świątek bronze medal

Iga Świątek defeated Anna Schmiedlova 2:0 (6:2, 6:1) and won the bronze medal in the tennis tournament at the Olympic Games in Paris. She is the first Polish woman in history to achieve this.

And although the Pole started the match by winning on her own serve, her opponent won the next two games. However, the Slovak was unable to continue her good streak, and our player clearly played out. Świątek won five games in a row, clearly dominating her opponent. The Raszynian was therefore only a step away from winning a medal.

The second set started with an even game. Both ladies won their serves. Then the concert of the best racket in the world began. The Pole played brilliantly, and Schmiedlova sent the ball out more and more often. The Slovak seemed to have less and less strength and faith that she could still turn the tide of this match. After only 57 minutes, Świątek was already serving for the win. She used her chance perfectly and could start celebrating.

Świątek won the bronze medal and thus added another “disc” to the medal haul of Poles. The Polish national team has four medals in total.

Świątek’s performance is the best result ever achieved by a Polish tennis representative. The best results so far are two quarterfinals: the doubles of Mariusz Fyrstenberg and Marcin Matkowski in Beijing 2008 and the mixed doubles of Świątek and Łukasz Kubot in Tokyo in 2020.

Donna Vekic and Qinwen Zheng will compete for the gold medal on Saturday.
