Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff will fight for a place in the quarterfinals

Iga Swiatek achieved another one-sided win at the Miami Open, winning her second-round match against Madison Brengle 6-3, 6-0. The Pole rounded out the victory in just 65 minutes. Swiatek won 66% of their points on first serve and 65% of their points on second serve.

In comparison, the American was only able to win 39% of her points on the first serve and 55% of her points on the second serve. Of the 10 break point chances she faced on Brengle’s serve, Swiatek converted five while she dropped her serve once.

Swiatek ended the match with almost six times as many winners as Brengle – 25 to 4 of the latter. To complete the Sunshine Double, Swiatek now plays another American, 14th-seeded Coco Gauff.

Gauff won her third-round match against Shuai Zhang 7-6 (1), 7-5 in an hour and 49 minutes.

Miami Open: Azarenka decided to retire mid-match

All in all, the Americans had a pretty mixed day of results on Sunday.

16th seed Jessica Pegula ousted 17th seed Elena Rybakina 6-3, 6-4 in their third round match in an hour and 21 minutes. Pegula saved three of the four break points she faced while scoring two who converted four break points she had on Kazakhstan’s serve.

Pegula will next play Anhelina Kalinina, aiming for a spot in the quarterfinals. Kalinina came back from a one-set deficit to defeat Beatriz Haddad Maia 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and 29 minutes.

Petra Kvitova defeated Lauren Davis 7-5, 6-1 in her third-round match. The 28th-seeded Czech took an hour and 22 minutes to win. She will play against 21st seeded Veronika Kudermetova, who defeated another American, Shelby Rogers, in the third round.

Kudermetova scored a 6-1, 7-5 win in an hour and 28 minutes. Finally, fifth-seeded Paula Badosa meets Linda Fruhvirtova in the round of 16. The Spaniard defeated Yulia Putintseva 6-3, 6-4 in the third round.

For Fruhvirtova, the road to the round of 16 was a little more dramatic as her opponent, 12th seed Victoria Azarenka, was eliminated quite suddenly and the Czech led 6-2, 3-0 in the match.

Azarenka later shared an update on why she was unable to continue her match at the Miami Open. “I shouldn’t have gone out on the pitch today. The last few weeks have been extremely stressful in my private life.

The last match took so much strength from me but I wanted to play in front of a great crowd as they helped me get through my first match. I wanted to go out there and try, but it was a mistake. I hope to take a break and come back,” said the former world No. 1.
