IG Metall has called for new protests against rebuilding plans at Airbus and its subsidiary Premium Aerotec on Tuesday. During the course of the morning the union and Airbus works councils want to symbolically show the “red card” to the corporate management at all of the North German locations – including in front of the Airbus plant in Bremen.

Union speaks of “breaking up”

Airbus wants to convert parts of its civil aircraft construction – which affects the previous subsidiary Premium Aerotec in particular. Works councils and unions speak of a “break-up”. You see thousands of jobs in Germany at risk. Premium Aerotec has so far produced in Nordenham, Varel and Bremen and delivers from there to the major Airbus factories in Hamburg and Bremen, among others.

On Wednesday the Airbus management wants to inform the works councils about details of their plans. One goal is to bundle the production of large fuselage parts in order to become faster and cheaper. IG Metall has already announced further resistance: The company has not yet been able to explain the sense of the planned changes. The German Airbus locations would be “deliberately weakened”, and instead the French plants would be strengthened, says the union.
