The fact that the ifm Razorbacks are also interesting for foreign players is no longer a novelty. And it’s not just American players who actively support the team off and on the field. The Upper Swabians are also strengthening their squad from other European countries.
With the commitment of four young European talents, the scouting team around head coach Sascha Brändle was able to give the squad more depth. Especially in the important positions on the offensive line, Jesse Meyers (Belgium), Carlos Andrade Brito (France), Laurits Vinther (Denmark) and Ludvig Haglund (Sweden) will help ensure that quarterback Alexander Kronberg Bjerre is even better protected.
Carlos Brito from France only came to football at the age of 18 and played all the time for Les Aigle Rouge in Nice, with whom he also became champion of the second division of southern France.
Jesse Meyers got into football at 16 and, after graduating from high school in England, played for Bristol Pride Academy for two years before being offered a chance with the Bern Grizzlies. His studies drew him back home where he played for his hometown club again and became a member of the Belgium national team in 2019.
The Dane Laurits Vinther discovered his love for football at the age of twelve. He was last active in the Danish American Football League DAFF and played for the Frederikssund Oaks as well as the Danish national team.
Ludvig Haglund played for the Swedish national team from 2019 to 2021. At his home club, the Gothenburg Marvels, he has been active in both the youth and men’s teams for the past seven years. Here he gained experience as a player and as a line coach.
With the signing of this European lineman, the Razorbacks are gaining an advantage in terms of the so-called “foreigner rule.” While their US colleagues are considered non-European foreigners (A-players) – of whom a maximum of two players may be on the field at the same time – there is no such limit for European foreigners (E-players). This gives the Razorbacks the opportunity to fill other positions with US import players.
The fact that the players mentioned come to the ifm Razorbacks shows that the Ravensburgers are an interesting club with their idea of football, their long-term team development and their spirit – across borders.
The four players, aged between 19 and 24, now have until the start of the season to become a functioning unit together with their US colleague Jake Suggett (who takes the center of the offensive line). At the preseason game against the Stuttgart Scorpions on May 7th, 2023, the lineman can show how well the almost 700 kg heavy Ravensburger attack line works until then when it comes to opening up paths for the running back or protecting the quarterback when passing.
