After a difficult period, IFK Gothenburg stood for a well-executed performance against IF Elfsborg last week.
The match ended 1-1, but Jens Askou takes a lot of positives from the effort.
– It was a good performance if you think about mentality and defensive structure. The game plan was not to have the ball the most, but to be as dangerous as possible when we do get it. It was a good match, but it will be a completely different match against Halmstad, says Askou.
Against Elfsborg, a newly composed attacking trio with Marcus Berg and new acquisitions Arbnor Mucolli and Thomas Santos took their place from the start. Adjustments that contributed to a completely different counterattack game, says Askou.
– There was a lot of speed. (Thomas) Santos is quick and very direct. Arbnor (Mucolli) has a lot of individual skills and is a smart player. It was part of the plan, to play very direct and straight.
For tomorrow’s home match against Halmstads BK, IFK Göteborg can get a welcome addition in Sebastian Ohlsson, who is already eligible for a comeback after his foot injury that kept him out of action for two months.
– We’ll see. It looks positive, but then we’ll see how it looks after training, says Askou.
Has he trained fully all week?
– Almost all of it. He has responded well so far. We know he is not 100 percent and he cannot play 90 minutes. We’ll see how he reacts and then we’ll make a decision tomorrow.
It could be minutes tomorrow?
– If he is in the squad, he is not there to sit and watch, says the Blåvitt coach.
Players that Askou confirms will miss the match are Suleiman Abdullahi, Hussein Carneil, Emil Salomonsson and Anders Trondsen, who are all injured.
In the preliminary starting eleven that trained together in Saturday’s training, Gustaf Norlin took a place, unlike the eleven Jens Askou made against Elfsborg.
This is how IFK Göteborg can line up against Halmstads BK:
Dahlberg – Santos, Svensson, Bångsbo, Wendt – Carlén, Salaou, Kåhed – Norlin, Berg, Mucolli.
