IFK Gothenburg – The whole city team

22 years. National team player from Estonia. Attacker. Erik Sorga comes most recently from DC United in MLS and a loan to Dutch Venlo.

– Erik is a player that we have followed for a long time. He has many interesting qualities, especially with his speed and an ability to create situations for himself and his teammates. He is a modern and hard working striker in both the defensive and offensive. It gives us another alternative offensively and complements our attack set-up in a good way, says Pontus Farnerud.

Erik himself about the transition:

– IFK Gothenburg is one of the Scandinavian big clubs that all football enthusiasts know. I have got a very good picture of what it is we are going to achieve together. We are going up to the top of Swedish football again and I am really looking forward to being a part of it. I also long to play for the fans. I have looked at the fantastic typhoons and seen what the atmosphere is like at home arena. It is the highest class.

Erik became the shooting league winner in 2019 in the top club Flora Tallinn from his home country before he moved to the USA and the MLS team DC United’s organization. During the pandemic, it became practically difficult to combine league play with travel for national team football on European soil, and in the autumn he was loaned out to VVV-Venlo in the Dutch second division.
In World Cup qualifying Estonia, Erik scored three goals in 2021. Among other things, two against world number one Belgium.

– It is important for me to be part of the national team. Given how the pandemic affected the league in the USA in different ways, games in Europe were necessary to get national team games. After the late loan to Holland last autumn, it is nice to start the Swedish season from day one together with my new teammates.

Pontus Farnerud:

– Erik is incredibly ambitious and very motivated to be part of IFK Gothenburg. He is another piece of the puzzle in the squad building for the 2022 season and the coming years.
