IFK Gothenburg and Västra Frölunda IF Collaboration Leads to Blue and White Players Joining Season Start-up

When our partner club starts its season, several of the players on site may be blue and white.
– It is good that we are involved directly in the start-up, says Ola Larsson, technical director.

In December, we released the news about our collaboration with Västra Frölunda IF. As part of the joint effort, a group of players will be available for and participate in Frölunda’s activities, both with match play and training.

The players from IFK Gothenburg who are the most current for games in Frölunda are part of what we at IFK Gothenburg call our U23 group. It consists of own academy players who are contracted by IFK Göteborg.
The players in the group have the opportunity to train and play with both IFK Gothenburg and Västra Frölunda IF.

In 2024, we will not have our own team in the U21-Allsvenskan, so matches will take place either in Frölunda, IFK Gothenburg’s A-team or in the oldest youth teams.

– It is young players who will have the opportunity to move in the activities of both associations. There is a flexibility that will provide a dynamic in the training and match day for these players, says Ola Larsson.

Magnus Edlund, our football developer, is the one who leads the everyday work with the young players.

– You must also bear in mind that just because we start the year with these nine players, it does not mean that it is written in stone. They are under contract with IFK Göteborg and if there is a need to screw up individual arrangements for match play or training, we will do it. Development and performance are in focus, says Magnus.
