IFK Göteborg works actively to prevent VAR from being introduced.
Already at the 2021 annual meeting, IFK Göteborg’s members decided that the association should work to ensure that the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) system is not introduced in Swedish football.
We would like to remind you of this as the debate about the technical aid has once again become relevant.
Since the annual meeting decision in 2021, IFK Göteborg has been actively working with the VAR issue in various discussions and forums where it is relevant.
In addition to this, IFK Göteborg has also submitted a letter – together with several other elite clubs – to the Swedish Football Association about the issue.
The letter was sent to the Confederation Board, with copies to the boards of Swedish Elite Football, Elite Women’s Football and to all federation districts.
The intention of the letter was to clarify the associations’ stance against VAR in Swedish football. At the same time, we wanted to present a coherent and clear argument against the system, as expressed in the member motions of the signatory associations.
