Ifixit has disassembled the Iphone 13, and documents the various hardware changes in Apple’s new phone models.
Among the news is something that can be controversial. Namely, it seems that the screen and phone are connected via serial numbers with the result that Face ID completely stops working if you replace the screen without having access to Apple’s special software for activation and calibration.
Apple has long tried to make it harder for everyone except the company’s authorized service center to perform repairs on the iPhone. In response to growing criticism, the company launched in 2019 a new program for authorization of small independent service workshops, which since 2020 is also available in Europe.
The program provides, among other things, access to the above-mentioned software and the opportunity to order official spare parts from Apple. However, many users with a slightly older phone might prefer a cheaper, lower-quality spare just to keep the phone alive. Iphone 13 is new and expensive today, but customers should therefore be aware that such cheap repairs of the screen in the future will make Face ID unusable.
