The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has approved the introduction of blue cards into the rules of the game, reports February 8, The Telegraph newspaper.
According to the publication, if a player is shown a blue card, he will have to leave the field for 10 minutes. Two blue cards in one match will be equivalent to a red card – that is, the player will be forced to leave the field completely.
It is noted that the innovation is planned to be tested in women’s and youth football, as well as in lower league competitions. The Football Association of England has expressed its readiness to implement this rule in its competitions next season.
Initially, the idea was considered to make the blue card orange to distinguish it from the other card colors – yellow and red, but later it was decided to leave it blue. IFAB is set to announce the start of blue card testing on Friday.
