One of the most infamous exploitation film genres ever was Bruceploitation. After Bruce Lee’s death in 1973, a handful of production companies hired look-alike actors or created characters named “Bruce” who, oh coincidence, did martial arts, with the intention of passing them off as films by the late actor. What’s more, there were actors who changed their names to Bruce Li, Bruce Lai, Bruce Le, Bruce Lie, Bruce Lei, Dragon Lee, Bruce Ly or Lee Bruce, among many others. The floodgates were open, and for five years there was free rein in an absolutely unspeakable phenomenon.

Twenty years after his father’s death came, sadly, the death of his son, Brandon Lee, who, as we all know, was going to be shot with blanks on the set of The Crow but for some reason had an accident with real bullets. Alex Proyas finished the film in his honor, which became a classic, and, at the end of the film, he dedicated it to Brandon and a certain “Eliza.” But… Who was she?
Eliza Hutton was working as Renny Harlin’s personal assistant in 1990 when she met Brandon Lee. The two fell in love, moved in together, and proposed to each other in October 1992. They were planning to get married in Mexico (specifically in Ensenada) on April 17, 1993. The actor died on March 31. Eliza was vital to the film’s release because, despite her grief, she supported Proyas when he said he wanted to finish it, and so he decided to dedicate it to her.
Eliza Hutton
Hutton has chosen to keep a low profile, and has only had a couple of credited film jobs, including casting assistant for Dill Scallion and personal assistant to Kiefer Sutherland on the series The Confession, as well as a cameo in Sex, Lies, and Videotape. Since then, she has only come out in the open once, calling for a ban on firearms on film sets following the unpremeditated murder of Rust. She knows this better than anyone.
