Like all tech media, JVTECH regularly communicates with Samsung representatives. Internally, many of them have already told us about their dream of seeing what they call “One Samsung” come about, that is, a simple, coherent and unified ecosystem like Apple. Today, the Korean giant’s Smart TVs are taking a step in this direction.

A new era for your Samsung TV: one operating system for everyone

Do you have a Samsung television? So prepare yourself for a major change that could occur as early as 2025. In fact, the South Korean giant announced during the Samsung Developer Conference that it was going to unify its different operating systems under the One UI banner.

This decision could revolutionize your user experience and simplify interaction with your Samsung devices… or not. Because yes, although it is possible that Samsung will make profound changes to the interface and functionality of its televisions, it is also perfectly possible that it will simply be a cosmetic change, consisting of renaming the systems existing.

Until now, Samsung’s software landscape has been rather fragmented. The refrigerators worked with Family Hub, the ovens with Smart Things, while the Smart TVs used Tizen. Each system had its own specifics, which made managing and updating these devices more complex for Samsung.

By opting for One UI, the operating system that already equips Samsung smartphones and tablets, the company aims to offer a more consistent and intuitive user experience. This unification should also allow Samsung to reduce its development and maintenance costs.

Updates guaranteed for seven years

The move is also expected to reinforce Samsung’s commitment to providing long-term software support. The company has promised to provide seven years of updates for its devices, ensuring users benefit from the latest features and security patches.

If Samsung has confirmed that the stable version of One UI 7 will be available from January 2025 with the release of the Galaxy S25, it still remains to be determined whether this update will also concern televisions.

Tizen: a particular operating system

Here are the facts, now for a little analysis. As we have said, for the moment, the OS for Samsung televisions is called Tizen. Tizen is already quite well integrated into the Samsung ecosystem (SmartThings, account synchronization, etc.) and in our eyes the Korean giant has no interest in proposing a radical change. Although slower than most of its competitors and sometimes a bit confusing/old-fashioned in its presentation, Tizen is the most complete OS on the market, by quite a margin.

In France, Tizen is the only OS that natively offers applications from all major operators, it’s huge. Samsung televisions also benefit from a special link with Microsoft which allows you to enjoy Xbox GamePass Ultimate without a console or PC connected to the TV, a simple Tizen application is enough.

For our part, we think that this rather vague announcement from the Samsung Developer Conference will not have a huge impact. We are therefore banking on a primarily aesthetic update of Tizen in spring 2025 for the release of the new TV ranges. For us, Samsung should take advantage of these aesthetic changes to the interfaces to rename its OS One UI. We’re taking bets, see you in January at CES 2025, when we should learn more.
