If you find a dead wild boar and report it, you will be able to get paid

In order to reduce the prevalence of African swine fever (ASF) in the wild, the Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) calls on anyone who finds a dead feral pig to report it to the municipality or service. It will be possible to receive 23 euros for it, the portal “Delfi” found out the FVS.

From 1 July, a person who has provided information and provided the exact location of a dead feral pig will be able to receive payment, which will be made by transfer within the following month.

The fee for presenting a dead wild boar is 30 euros, of which 23% personal income tax will be deducted, so the amount that will go to a person’s account will be 23 euros and 10 cents.

These costs will be covered by the ASF control program co-financed by the European Commission.

A dead wild boar may be reported to the local government of the relevant territory or to the territorial unit of the FVS in the territory of which the wild boar was found.

Although the ASF virus is not dangerous to humans, in order to prevent the spread of the disease, we urge you to take precautions and not to touch the carcasses of wild boars, as well as to wash your shoes when you return home.

The FVS will take a sample from the wild boar carcass for laboratory examination on the ASF and, in cooperation with the municipality, will organize the collection and destruction of the wild boar carcass.

The carcinogenic ASF virus remains in the pig carcasses for a long time, so the carcasses serve as a reservoir for the disease in nature.

One of the effective measures to restore the wild boar population is the active search and destruction of carcasses. In addition, hunters must continue to actively hunt wild boar in order to prevent population growth.

This year, ASF has been detected in 150 wild boars. Last year, around this time, ASF was detected in 189 wild boars.
