If you don’t vote, this will be the last election

For the last eight years, those who wanted to stop me have slandered me, accused me, and maybe even tried to kill me, said former President Donald Trump during a rally at the site of the first attempt on his life – in Butler, Pennsylvania. Billionaire Elon Musk, who supported Trump, suggested that if Trump loses, it will be the last election in America.

Returning to Butler after tragedy and suffering – Donald Trump

”For the last eight years, those who want to stop us from achieving this (great) future have slandered me, impeached me, accused me, tried to throw me off the candidate list and who knows? Maybe they even tried to kill me,” Trump said.

On Saturday, the Republican candidate returned after less than three months to the same place in western Pennsylvania where an assassin’s bullet hit his ear and one of the former president’s supporters was killed in the attack.

“Like I was saying…” Trump began his speech, pointing to a chart of immigration statistics he was discussing on July 13, when his speech was interrupted by gunshots.

“Tonight, I return to Butler after tragedy and suffering to deliver a simple message to Pennsylvanians and to America: Our movement to Make America Great Again is stronger, prouder, more united, more determined and closer to victory than ever before,” the former president said. , speaking from behind protective glass. At 6:11 p.m. (local time), the time of the attack, Trump ordered a minute of silence, during which “Ave Maria” was played in honor of the then-killed Trump supporter, firefighter Corey Comperatore.

Elon Musk attended Donald Trump’s rally

.Donald Trump recalled that during the July attack, Comperatore had the best seat in the audience and counted on the former president to invite him to the stage.

“Few people expected that Corey would be on this stage three months later in an almost immortal capacity, and that’s where he is today,” he noted. He also repeatedly swore that he would “never bend and give in, even in the face of death.” But he warned his supporters that if they didn’t vote, “all this would be in vain” and “they wouldn’t have their country anymore.”

Trump spent the rest of his speech repeating his campaign messages. The former president argued, among other things, that America “if it has a wise president” will have no problem with external enemies such as China, North Korea and Russia, but the real threat is the “internal enemy.” He also claimed that during his presidency, America was more respected around the world, and today “everyone laughs at it.” He also repeated his promise to end the war in Ukraine.

Saturday’s rally – one of the largest in the current campaign – was attended by, among others: billionaire Elon Musk, who appeared for the first time at a candidate’s election rally. The owner of platform He also encouraged people to register and vote.

“If you don’t do this, this will be the last election. This is my prediction. Nothing is more important,” he said.

Musk openly supported Trump in the election immediately after the Butler attack and continues to support his campaign both financially (to the tune of over $100 million) and with tweets. Trump also announced that if he wins the election, he will appoint Musk to head a special commission (the “state efficiency commission”) to develop a budget cuts plan.

In addition to him, special guests included members of the family of Corey Comperatore, a Trump supporter killed by the Butler gunman, and vice presidential candidate JD Vance.

Will America begin to isolate itself?

.In the face of the systematic growth of China’s power, the growing role of India and Vladimir Putin’s efforts to rebuild Russia’s superpower position, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the United States to maintain liberal hegemony. Therefore, individual presidents are looking for new strategic solutions – not always beneficial for Europe. Already during Barack Obama’s presidency, the US made a “pivot to Asia”. It has become clear that the Indo-Pacific area will be the region of the most important competition in the coming decades. After the outbreak of full-scale war in Ukraine in February 2022, Europe received unequivocal support from the United States, but at the same time during the NATO summit in Vilnius it was clearly communicated that the United States expects a significant increase in European military spending. President Joe Biden, who did not allow Russia to occupy Ukraine, withdrew from Afghanistan in 2021. Over the years, elements of the strategy of restraint have increasingly appeared in US policy, and it is expected that this trend will be maintained. Donald Trump’s catchy slogans, “America First” and “Make America Great Again”, make him popular, which means that a large part of the American society expects this. His attitude towards NATO and the war in Ukraine is not completely new, but is rooted in the US strategic tradition. However, Trump is more willing than others to follow the patterns on which the dust settled after World War II.

“Everything indicates that the unipolar world is coming to an end or, as some say, it has already ended. The basic question is: which strategic option will the United States use from its rich repertoire? A political tradition dating back to the times of the Founding Fathers shows that regardless of the intentions of Europeans, Americans will be guided by their own interests in all their actions. After 1945, the international situation developed in such a way that a permanent presence in Europe was advantageous for the United States. During the First and Second World Wars, intervention on the Old Continent also paid off for the Americans, but in the 20th century – not anymore,” writes Patryk PALKA in the magazine Głos co Młodych.
