If you can’t catch Harun Masiku, you can ask us for help

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Former investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Novel Baswedan criticized the anti-corruption agency under the leadership of Firli Bahuri Cs for not being able to arrest fugitive Harun Masiku since January 2020.

He also offered to help hunt down Harun on the condition that the arrest authority was granted by Firli Cs as the head of the KPK.

“If you can’t afford it, you can ask us to help you catch HM [Harun Masiku]. I’m sure it won’t take too long. That’s even if Firli has the will to arrest him,” Novel said CNNIndonesia.com via written message, Monday (23/5).

He also criticized Firli’s statement that said Harun had not been able to sleep well until now because the KPK team was still looking for him. According to Novel, Harun’s sleeping problem is not Firli’s business.

“The bottom line is that whether it’s true to sleep well or not is not Firli’s business. Firli should not be the one who should not sleep well because she has not caught the fugitive HM until now,” he added.

Novel also poked fun at the Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK, Karyoto, who invited the public to find and arrest Harun but at their own expense. He explained that people outside the KPK must have the authority to make arrests.

“In terms of being caught red-handed, everyone can do it, but for arrests there must be authority. It is not permissible for the public or people who do not have the authority to make arrests,” explained Novel.

“I think it’s a joke or because it’s concerned [Karyoto] do not understand the criminal procedure law. Moreover, by saying ‘own expense’, what does it mean?” said Novel.

It has been more than 850 days since the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has not been able to arrest former PDIP legislative candidate Harun Masiku. No significant progress has been made by the KPK regarding the handling of the case.

Harun has to face the law for allegedly bribing former Commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan so that he can be appointed as a replacement for Nazarudin Kiemas, who passed to the DPR but died.

It is suspected that he prepared around Rp. 850 million for the facilitation so that he could go to Senayan.

The KPK has collaborated with the Secretariat of the National Central Bureau (NCB)-Interpol Indonesia since last July to search for Harun’s whereabouts. Interpol has included Harun’s name in the Red Notice.
