The Railway Administration (SŽ) will not transfer the Jeseníky Rainbow Movement to the railway station in Dětřichov in the Bruntál region. The activists allegedly submitted the request for the dilapidated building and a subsidy of five million crowns for its repair late. The building is awaiting demolition. Demolition is also supported by the village leadership.
According to SŽ spokesman Tomáš Polák, several conditions must be met in the event of a transfer of SŽ’s assets to other entities. It must be approved first by the SŽ Board of Directors and finally by the government in its resolution. According to Polák, the Rainbow Movement did not take any of the necessary steps in time. “After consulting with the representatives of Dětřichov, we will finally proceed to the removal of the existing railway station and the construction of a new station building,” said Polák.
He stated that the condition of the building is unsatisfactory and repair is not appropriate. If the building was not removed, there would be no space for the establishment of parking spaces, especially for the disabled. “Furthermore, we could not build a passenger shelter to connect to the newly built station building,” he said.
The coordinator of the Jeseníky Rainbow Movement, Ivo Dokoupil, argues that the building can be saved. It wants to find a new use for it, to change it, for example, into a tourist hostel or a space for exhibitions and concerts. “In addition, SŽ would also save more than a million crowns by transfer, if it would give us a subsidy of five million and it would not have to pay 6.2 million for demolition,” Dokoupil said.
SŽ plans to demolish the building on the Bruntál – Olomouc line with regard to its poor technical condition and oversizing. He is already building a new dispatch building in the neighborhood. There will be a parking lot on the site of the original one after the demolition. This intention is also supported by the municipality management. “The railway station is only ruining the village. It was a disgrace when it appeared among the 20 worst railway stations in the Czech Republic. We are glad that it will go down.
However, Alena Borovcová from the National Monuments Institute does not agree with the demolition. According to her, SŽ should rather go the way of finding a new use for historic buildings. The use of the building could be found in tourism. “The Olomouc – Bruntál line is very nice and leads through a tourist-attractive area. The construction of the station is historical and unique. The proposed drastic construction interventions completely devastate the atmosphere of the line,” says the authorized designer Karel Siuda.
Jingles have recently had to disappear from Czech railway stations, replaced by gong. Let’s remember them:
