The Register writes that there are more and more reports of cases where users who run the Zoom app on a Mac experience that the program has turned on the microphone without using it.
Zoom corrected the error, or?
The issue appears to affect users running the Zoom app on macOS Monterey, where Apple has made it easier for users to detect if an application or device is using the microphone or camera. The user is visually warned through an orange or green dot in the upper menu bar if one or both are activated.
Complaints are said to have surfaced already when Monterey was launched at the end of 2021, before Zoom released an update just before the New Year that was to correct the mistake. It is now reported that the error should not have been corrected for everyone at all, and that there are still people who experience the microphone indicator light up when you are not in a meeting.
The update does not help
The users who report that the problem is still present are those who tend to leave the program open in the background, often because they are in the home office and use the program very actively in a work context. According to these, the microphone is constantly activated if you are going to start from the light indicator – and if the indicator is not correct then it is not much help.
