KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. The public is advised not to refuse if they get the opportunity to immunize the Covid-19 vaccine. Immunization expert Jane Soepardi reminded the public not to underestimate the corona virus outbreak even though the death rate seems still small.

“It is better not to be exposed to the corona virus (Covid-19). If we are lucky to get Covid-19 immunization, don’t refuse,” said Jane in an online talk show broadcast on the YouTube channel of the West Merdeka Forum 9, Monday (23/11/2020).

“People feel that Covid-19 is okay. Many say the death rate is just two percent. We shouldn’t think like that,” he continued.

He also explained the importance of society to avoid this disease as much as possible. First, because until now the public and scientists’ knowledge about Covid-19 is limited.

He gave an example, a recent development in which experts determined that the drug Chloroquine proved ineffective in treating Covid-19 patients. In fact, this affordable drug was previously believed to be effective in handling Covid-19. So that according to Jane, there is always new knowledge and findings about this disease.

Second, Until now, it is not certain whether Covid-19 survivors will be easily exposed to other diseases in the future or not. “Now we are infected with Covid-19 and then we can recover, but next year maybe what can happen (in our bodies) we don’t know,” explained Jane.

He returned to set an example. When individuals have had chickenpox as a child and then recover, there is the potential for other diseases as adults. According to Jane, this was because the smallpox virus was still stored in the nerve ganglion. So that in 15 or 20 years later, when the body is not in a good condition, that person can get smallpox again.

Another example, is when children who get measles as a child can recover. As it turned out, 30 years later, some of them developed inflammation of the brain which caused lifelong paralysis.

“This means that we don’t know what Covid-19 will be in the future. Don’t feel proud because you have been exposed to Covid-19 and then recovered. Currently, people who have contracted Covid-19 are continuously monitored,” said Jane. “What will happen next year, two years to 10 years, all are still being studied,” he added.
