1. OTP

One time password (OTP) is a code containing a six-digit authentication number sent via SMS. This code is the gateway to access WhatsApp.

An OTP will be sent when the user tries to log in to their account.

So if there is an OTP that suddenly enters via SMS, it’s possible that someone else is trying to hijack your account on another device. Just ignore the message and don’t give the OTP code to anyone.

2. Exit WhatsApp Web

This could be the next sign that your WA account has been tapped. You can tell if another unknown device is trying to access your WhatsApp account.

You do this by pressing the three-dot icon at the top right of the application. Select WhatsApp Web mode and you will see which device is using it.

3. Message Read

When a message has been read this could be a possibility that your WhatsApp account has been hijacked or tapped.

4. Self-Sent Messages

If you never feel like sending messages, this could be a sign that your WhatsApp account has been hijacked. Immediately raise awareness.

Tips to avoid WhatsApp being bugged

To avoid the account being hijacked is to activate two step verification on WhatsApp. This way makes it difficult for criminals to access accounts, because they don’t know the PIN two step verification used.

Here’s how to activate it:

  • Click the three dot icon in the WhatsApp application.
  • Select Settings.
  • Go to Account settings.
  • Pilih Two-step verification.
  • WhatsApp will ask to enable two-step verification with a PIN. Click enable to activate the feature.
  • Create a PIN, enter six digits as desired.
  • Next you will be asked to enter the email address associated with the account. This is intended for if one day you want to change the PIN.
