“If we did not have the emergency regime, gang members like this one who are still hiding would be free” – Diario La Página – 2024-04-20 16:14:00

The National Civil Police reported this Thursday the capture of Herson Roberto Sorto Aguilar, alias “El Diablo”, a member of the MS13 gang, in the Satélite Oriente neighborhood of San Miguel, where the gang member was hiding to evade justice.

Given the capture of the subject, the deputy and head of the new ideas faction Cristian Guevara, reacted on his X account and wrote “If we did not have the Exception Regime, gangsters like this one who are still hiding would be free.”.

According to the authorities, the Exception Regime has allowed the country to achieve 600 days without homicides and the capture of some 70,000 terrorists; more than 3,000 firearms, vehicles, and cash have also been seized, which were used by gangs to commit crimes.

Guevara’s statements reflect the government’s position regarding the security policies implemented in El Salvador, underlining the importance of measures such as the Exception Regime in reducing violence and capturing criminals.

The deputy also noted that the measures have been the subject of criticism from human rights organizations and other sectors of civil society, which have expressed concerns about possible abuses and rights violations during their application.
