Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka rejected the discourse of extending the presidential term to three terms. The eldest son of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was adamantly refused if his father returned to office for a third time.
Gibran even wants to join if someone holds a demonstration against the extension of the presidential term or postponement of the election.
“If there is a tour I will do it. Do not refuse (If there is a demonstration, please let me know. I want to join),” he said after inaugurating Grabmart at Legi Market, Tuesday (12/4).
“Refuse three periods,” he added.
He said the central government is also preparing to hold the 2024 General Election. According to the schedule agreed by the DPR, the government and the KPU, the voting will be held on February 14, 2024.
“Clearly there was no delay,” said Gibran.
One member of the Solo City HMI told CNNIndonesia.com that his group will hold a demonstration around the Purwosari Fly Over this afternoon highlighting several issues. These include refusing to increase the price of cooking oil, VAT, and fuel.
They will also voice their rejection of the extension of the president’s term of office or the postponement of the 2024 election. Another issue, students are pressing for the andesite mining in Wadas to be stopped immediately.
When asked whether he would take part in the action, Gibran did not answer firmly. Instead, he asked why the problems in Wadas were raised through a demonstration held in Solo.
“If there was a demonstration about Wadas, why did the demonstration take place in Solo?” he asked.
The issue of extending the presidential term and postponing the election has surfaced in recent times. Recently, students held demonstrations in various regions on Monday (11/4).
“I think it’s clear that everyone knows that the general election will be held on February 14, 2024,” Jokowi said on the State Secretariat Youtube, Sunday (10/4).
