Tixtla, Gro. The parents of the 43 students from the Ayotzinapa Normal School, who disappeared in Iguala in 2014, warned during the session of the National Popular Assembly that “they have every right to protest and demand dialogue with the President” and as long as that does not happen their protests will take them to the electoral campaigns.
In a document, named Truth and justice adrift, they pointed out that “the Ayotzinapa case does not follow the route of the electoral calendar but rather the path of truth and justice, therefore, we cannot wait for the electoral process to end, the meeting with the president has to be within the deadlines that the Chief Executive himself referred to. If there is no dialogue, the electoral party will be clouded with the voice of Ayotzinapa, demanding truth and justice for the 43.”
They recalled that the evidence of the students’ disappearance exists and is in the hands of the government, specifically the Commission for Truth and Access to Justice in the Ayotzinapa Case (Covaj).
“It is clear that there is no political will on the part of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to seriously investigate the Mexican Army; on the contrary, his narrative of blaming the lawyers of the mothers and fathers of the 43 is a deliberate tactic of covering up the Army for its crimes committed against the students of Ayotzinapa,” they accused.
It is important, they said, “for the mothers and fathers that a meeting takes place with the President to take stock of the investigations and that the government provide accounts of the results in the case and say where the young people are. It is essential that the government informs what has been clarified and what is pending.”
They reiterated that if there is no dialogue “the struggle of the parents of the 43 will continue. “We will expand the protests by incorporating other sectors, we will make alliances with teachers, peasants and indigenous people who today see their rights violated.”
“We cannot allow that while the mothers and fathers of the 43 suffer the pain of not knowing about their children, the party system swirls around the electoral party with empty speeches that do not incorporate the issue of the missing,” they attacked.
“It is inconceivable,” they stated, that “in the 100 points of the Morena candidate (for the Presidency of the Republic) there is not a single mention of the Ayotzinapa case, when she is the standard bearer of the government party that promised to clarify the case and he has not achieved it.
The mothers and fathers of the 43 guide us in the need to know the whereabouts of our children. We do not militate nor obey any political party,” they stated.
Vidulfo Rosales demands meeting with AMLO before June 2
The National Popular Assembly (ANP) agreed on an action plan from April 26 to May 1 in Mexico City – which includes a sit-in in the capital’s main square -, with the main demand of “a meeting with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, before the elections on June 2, and not after the process, as he proposes,” reported Vidulfo Rosales Sierra, lawyer at the Tlachinollan Mountain Human Rights Center.
Interviewed yesterday at the Ayotzinapa Normal School facilities, located in the municipality of Tixtla, where the ANP met for more than 6 hours, he noted that “for the parents, the issue of justice in the Ayotzinapa case does not go smoothly. according to the route of the electoral calendar.”
On the other hand, Rosales Sierra claimed the three candidates for the presidency of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum, from Morena, PT and PVEM; ” goes unnoticed, the issue of human rights in Mexico, the issue of forced disappearances.
The political class “does not feel challenged by the serious violations of human rights, and that the Ayotzinapa case is an open wound. There cannot be a transformation if the case is not resolved, and those who call themselves left-wing know that mainly.”
Earlier, during his intervention, Tlachinollan’s lawyer maintained that the López Obrador government “has failed to offer truth and justice to the mothers and fathers of the 43 missing students. He has broken his word to find the truth and punish those responsible, whoever it is; “The investigation had some progress, but when he reached the sensitive chords that have to do with the Mexican Army, he broke his word.”
