Azpiazu is very concerned about the economy of Bizkaia. They thought that the months of June, July and August would regain the pulse of the Territory, but the outbreaks have slowed down. “We are going to need many quarters of growth to be in a situation similar to the one before the COVID 19 crisis. We are very concerned.”
The CEBEK spokesperson has stated that “If there is no control of the pandemic, there will be no economic recovery.” This is the maxim that all the citizens of Bizkaia must adhere to, he stated.
As for the figure of the ERTES, Azpiazu believes that they were an exceptional measure, very positive, but now it is time to analyze case by case. “The effects are less positive when they last over time.”
At another point in the interview, and asked about the repeal of the current labour reform, Azpiazu has said that “They are nonsense.” There must be formulas for organizational flexibility. At the same time, he does not believe that the crisis will be resolved with more tax pressure on families and companies. “The crisis is resolved with more debt”.
It does not agree with the perception of a country with precarious salaries and jobs, providing data such as that 3 out of 4 contracts in the Basque Country are permanent, or that 80% of jobs are full-time, with the highest salaries in the State.
Finally, we asked him about the bank mergers produced in the last days. Azpiazu believes that the process will continue. It does not rule out new approaches that affect Basque entities.
