“There’s a crisis in Liverpool,” said Viaplay commentator Sven Bisgaard Sundet as the Rossoneri lost 3-1 to Brentford in the Premier League on Monday night.
Of their first 17 Premier League games of the season, Liverpool have won just eight, while four have ended in a draw and five in a defeat.
– Is it a crisis?
– If you look at the big picture, we are in a generational change. We’ve had a good four or five years, and that’s more or less what a team can do. He was too slow and, in terms of reinforcements, we did too little in midfield. We needn’t speculate on what that means, but Klopp has often waited a year for the right player, Tore Hansen answers Dagbladet.
Riise gets furious: – Provocative
He is the managing director of the Norwegian supporters club Liverpool.no and naturally follows his favorite team closely.
– The result against Brentford was disappointing, and it’s easy to get sad, but it’s really been similar since the beginning of the season. So there’s a common thread here. It’s not an isolated achievement, Hansen adds.
He believes Liverpool have not been able to renew themselves fast enough and perhaps the club has been too loyal to certain players. He also points to several injury issues.
– Total failure
Liverpool are currently in 6th place in the Premier League. In the battle for the top four, the team has, among others, Newcastle, Manchester United and Tottenham ahead of them in the table, while Chelsea chase behind. In other words, it will likely be a fierce battle for the top four places this season, which gives away Champions League match tickets.
– What do you think of the first four of this season?
– Luckily it won’t be decided in January, but that’s the minimum goal. It’s still possible, as is going far in the Champions League.
– How would you describe it if Liverpool didn’t get into the top four?
– Then it’s definitely a season of failures. Then we almost have to win the Champions League to be able to say it’s been a good season, and it’s not easy. It will clearly be a total failure if we don’t finish in the top four.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher can barely recognize the men in red.
– I hardly saw a “Klopp team” this season. Liverpool cannot cope with the intensity of the opponent. It reminds me of Arsène Wenger’s Arsenal, who went from being a powerful and fast side to becoming a technical side. Defensively, Liverpool are a big pipe, the former Liverpool centre-back writes on Twitter.
Hansen totally agrees with that, he thinks Liverpool are getting a little too stagnant and a little too half-hearted.
– We get run down a little too often. Both the first round against Leicester and the second round against Aston Villa, which is the last two league games before Brentford, we will be in bad shape. It’s a very atypical Liverpool, so something is missing.
Hoping for a stellar purchase
Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham (19) is among the players linked to Liverpool.
Hansen hopes the Rossoneri can secure the English jewel during the summer transfer market, but he knows the competition will be tough. Real Madrid and Manchester City are also said to be looking for Erling’s former teammate Braut Haaland.
– Bellingham is not only a good player who has ten good years ahead of him, but he is exactly the type of player Liverpool need. He’s a box-to-box player, and that makes him incredibly interesting, says Hansen.
Jan Åge Fjørtoft, who has relatively good knowledge in German football, signs Chirping that he has been told Dortmund will accept a €120m offer for Bellingham this summer.
In Norwegian kroner, the amount is approximately 1.2 billion.
– It will be one of the most expensive in the world. There are some clubs in Europe that we can’t compete against financially, but it doesn’t seem like he’s after the money, rather he makes his own choices. It could be a small advantage for Liverpool, predicts Hansen.
Full confidence
Despite the fact that we probably know the answer, Dagbladet Hansen finally asks if Liverpool fans still have faith in Klopp.
“Yes,” says the fan manager curtly, before continuing:
– All teams and managers make mistakes. Klopp too, but the big questions about the coach aren’t on the table at all.
Liverpool host Wolverhampton in the FA Cup third round on Saturday. Seven days later, Brighton await away in the Premier League.
