Chairman of the PKB Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar or Cak Imin talk about postponing elections. Cak Imin said, if all parties are united, of course President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) agrees with the postponement of the election.
“If the parties are united, they will agree, but if the parties are not united, I don’t know,” said Cak Imin at the Kediri Regency Hall, East Java (East Java), Monday (7/2/2022).
Regarding the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md who said the government had never discussed the discourse of postponing the election and extending Jokowi’s term, Cak Imin admitted that he had no problem with it. According to him, the government is also waiting for a decision from the parties.
“Yes, it’s okay. It’s the government waiting parties too,” said Cak Imin.
Furthermore, Cak Imin also talked about his readiness to run for the 2024 presidential election. The deputy chairman of the DPR said he was ready to fight to run as a presidential candidate.
“Delayed, not postponed, we are ready. Ready to fight,” explained Cak Imin.
Previously, Mahfud Md conveyed the government’s stance regarding the discourse on postponing the 2024 General Election which was proposed and approved by a number of political party leaders. Mahfud said the government had never discussed the discourse on postponing the election and extending President Jokowi’s term.
“In the government itself there has never been a discussion about postponing the election or adding the term of office of the President/Vice President, either to become three terms or to extend one or two years,” Mahfud said in his statement, Monday (7/3/2022).
“There has never been a discussion about postponing the election and extending the term of office,” he emphasized.
President Jokowi, said Mahfud, twice chaired cabinet meetings on September 14 and September 27, 2021, the contents of which were related to the 2024 election. Jokowi conveyed a number of messages at the cabinet meeting.
“Ensuring that the 2024 election runs safely, smoothly, does not waste the budget, the campaign period is not too long and the distance between voting and the inauguration day of officials resulting from the 2024 General Election and Pilkada is not too long,” said Mahfud.
