The judge asked the suspects where the watch was. “The conversations recorded in the car indicate that my client did not have the Rolex,” says Mounir C.’s attorney, Chris Pittau. ‘It is of course already very serious that someone has to deal with so much violence and that something is taken from you that you will never see again,’ says press officer Justine Asbroek. “And if you hear the suspects say in court today that they very much regret it, it would also decorate them if they told us where that watch has gone.”
During the robbery, eavesdropping equipment was already in the suspects’ car. The Public Prosecution emphasizes that the robbery on Van Dam was unexpected, because the victim was selected quickly and the group normally did not commit robberies during the day. Also, the police would not have directly listened in at that time.

Van Dam said in a victim statement, which was read by a friend of his, that he does not accept the suspects’ apologies. He still thinks about the robbery every day and is still physically bothered by it.
