England could be in the same group as Ukraine in 2022 World Cup. Trainer English, Gareth Southgatejudging it could be an irrelevant match played with the current situation.
The draw for the 2022 World Cup has been completed. England are in Group B along with Iran and the United States.
Another opponent is still waiting for the winner in the play-offs in the European zone. Three countries must compete for a ticket, namely the winner of Scotland vs. Ukraine will kill each other with Wales.
Ukraine is in a state of conflict with Russia. This caused the match to be postponed to June.
“In this situation, all our thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, so when that game is played it is completely irrelevant,” Southgate told the BBC.
England are seeded in this group. On paper, Iran and the United States can be overcome by the Three Lions.
“USA and Iran are teams we haven’t played for in a long time and the third is an unknown team but raises the possibility of the England (Wales) derby,” Southgate revealed.
“We have to get out of the group. The first objective is to get out of the group and then we build from there,” he continued.
“When you are seeded, you have the advantage of losing six or seven big teams. Most of the first seeds will be happy with the group they have got.”
