Co-chairman of the German party “Union 90 / Greens” Robert Gabek stated that even if the pipeline Nord Stream 2 will be completed, it cannot be launched. According to him, the project contradicts the requirements of the EU Third Energy Package.
It is reported by German wave… “It is important for me that Nord Stream 2 is not completed. This is the main and most important thing,” the politician said.
Gabek is convinced that the gas pipeline can be one of the instruments of pressure on Russia in the dialogue with the EU, in particular, to find a solution to the conflict in Donbass. The co-chairman of the German Greens believes that the Minsk agreements and the “Normandy format” of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France, aimed at resolving the conflict, need to be “revived”.
“The energy that was in Minsk gave way to a certain disappointment and there are various ways to overcome this disappointment,” the politician says. In addition to pressure on the Russian Federation with the help of Nord Stream-2, one of such methods may be, for example, expanding the access of the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) to the territories in the Donbass.
Formerly a member of the Bundestag Armin-Paulus Hampel stated that Germany have to make concessions to the United States on liquefied natural gas in exchange for the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. At the same time, American LNG is an unattractive business.
