“If I win the lottery” … 28 years later, he honors a $ 10 million promise

Ph. Wisconsin State Lottery

“If I win the lottery, I’ll give you half”. This promise he made to his best friend 28 years ago. And this week, this American kept his word after pocketing the tidy sum of $ 22 million in the lottery.

A simple handshake in 1992 sealed this promise between Thomas Cook and Joseph Feeney. The two friends had agreed that if one of them ever won the lottery, he would divide his winnings in half to offer half to his comrade.

28 years later, it’s now done, the Wisconsin Lottery announced on Wednesday.

“A handshake is a handshake”

Since 1992, the two men played every week. Thomas Cook bought his winning ticket last month. When he realized he had just won $ 22 million (nearly € 19 million), he directly called his friend Joe to share the excellent news. He couldn’t believe it.

“A handshake is a handshake,” says Thomas. And we are no exception, even thirty years later.

While the two pensioners do not yet know exactly what to do with this huge sum, they both want to enjoy a pleasant retirement, spending as much time as possible with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
