The offensive midfielder was named the Allsvenskan’s best player after winning the SM gold last year. The question is whether or not Sebastian Nanasi has also been the best of all in the Swedish Cup so far. With only the final remaining, the Malmö FF star has been recorded for one goal and a whopping seven assists in five games.
That is as many assist points as during the entire season last year in the Allsvenskan, where he also scored eleven goals.
– It is clear that I want to score a lot of points, and if I can continue to keep that harvest up, I am satisfied, says Sebastian Nanasi.
How do you explain such a good cut?
– I’ve had to take a few corners now that I’ve had a few assists on. I manage to put good teammates in situations and then they have scored on them. Since then it has just flowed on.
Pontus Jansson praised Nanasi earlier this week for making his corners more dangerous, and becoming dangerous on set pieces is a goal on the way to the top. So what’s next for Nanasi?
– The next step may well be to join the A national team, take part in some gathering. Then it’s not really that I go and think a lot about what the next step is, but it’s more about the next match. How I can play it in the best way and help the team, says the U21 national team member.
There are those who think you were the best in the cup too. If you have that, what do you expect from the year?
– I never talk about not having too many expectations, or thinking too much about what can happen or what won’t happen. But I take it match by match. I want to do better than what I did last year and become a better player.
– But I know that it is hard work that will lie behind it, and one hundred percent focus on every training session and match. That’s all I can do and then take it from there.
Nanasi talks about dribbling a lot less than in his teens, because he’s gotten better at combining with teammates and finding them. The Kristianstad guy wants to get better at everything, including taking criticism the right way.
Head coach Henrik Rydström has talked about Nanasi’s grumpy side in the past, but that he is using the grumpiness in the right way now. The MFF coach’s demanding and sometimes harsh tone towards Nanasi is palpable.
– Yes you could say that. It’s about seeing it the right way. Use (the criticism) in the right way and try to make it better and develop that piece, concludes Nanasi.
