If Hot Air Could Prevent Covid-19, There Won’t Be Cases in Saudi Arabia

ISTANBUL, iNews.idWeather or hot air temperature will not help slow the spread corona virus (Covid-19). That view was conveyed by experts in infectious diseases and clinical microbiology from Universits Dicle at Turkey Southeast, Recep Tekin.

“If you keep your social distance and wear a mask, the infection rate of the disease might decrease. But the temperature (heat) itself is not effective, “Tekin told Anadolu News Agency.

Referring to the hot Mediterranean temperatures in southern Turkey, Tekin highlighted that the number of Covid-19 cases in the region has recently jumped, despite the high temperature. “If hot temperature can completely prevent the virus, we should not see cases in Saudi Arabia and Africa, “he continued.

Considering there will be days with higher temperatures in Turkey in the coming weeks, he said, people should not be too confident that they will be protected from infection by relying only on the hot weather. According to him, people still have to wear masks, maintain social distance, and pay attention to hand hygiene regardless of the surrounding temperature.

Since its appearance in Wuhan, China, last December, the corona virus pandemic has claimed more than 564,000 lives in 188 countries and regions.

The confirmed incidence of Covid-19 infections worldwide has now reached 12.7 million cases. Of that amount, around 7.4 million people have recovered from the respiratory disease, according to data compiled by the Worldometer page as of Saturday (11/06/2020).
