New Delhi ∙ Notice to pay 1.9 crore rupees for Taj Mahal historical monument. The Agra Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to the Archaeological Survey of India asking them to pay a property tax of Rs 1.5 lakh. The notice also states that if the dues are not paid within 15 days, the property will be forfeited.
However, ASI officials explained that the property tax is not applicable on historic monuments. Since the water is not used for commercial purposes, there is no rule to close the water tank. Water is used to maintain the greenery around the Taj Mahal. This is the first notice of its kind’ – said ASI Superintendent Raj Kumar Patel.
Company officials say a private company has been contracted to determine tax conditions in the area that includes the Taj Mahal and may have sent a notice.
