KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. Some time ago, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) issued regulations regarding guidelines for bicycle users on the road. This regulation is contained in the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number PM 59/2020 concerning the Safety of Cyclists on the Road.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi again emphasized that the regulation was issued to ensure the safety of cyclists. The Ministry of Transportation is said to have no intention of disturbing the comfort of the two-wheeled vehicle users.

“We have no intention of intervening, so that the comfort of the ladies and gentlemen is disturbed,” he said in a virtual press conference, Friday (25/9/2020).

Furthermore, the former President Director of PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) plans to expand the scope of the socialization of the regulation, in order to inform the public at large. Not only socialization, Budi admitted that his party is willing to build a space for dialogue with the community, to provide input on the regulation.

“If someone has an objection, we will replace it. We welcome it,” he said. “That is also the message of the President (Joko Widodo) if making a regulation involve the community as much as possible. So it is not impossible for us to change this,” added Budi.

If later the safety rules can be accepted by the community, Budi hopes that cycling activities can be more prevalent and commonplace. “This is a very good step, very innovative,” he said.

For information, in Permenhub Number 59 of 2020, the Ministry of Transportation regulates various provisions related to cycling activities. one of the main provisions regulated by the government is the technical requirements for bicycles. In these provisions, the government regulates what conditions cyclists must do.

Then, there are also some prohibited activities while cycling on the road. In addition, the Ministry of Transportation also regulates provisions related to supporting facilities and parking for cyclists.
