At noon a strong wind blew and scattered raindrops provided for cooling. But the evening sun provided optimal conditions and a fascinating play of colors at the start of the summer culture church of the St. Thomas More Association last Saturday. The stage was ready. The benches were set up at a proper distance from each other. Around 70 visitors came to experience the performance of the young rock band DryHeart. 80 would have been allowed.
The chairman and artistic director of the cultural church Jakob Handrack welcomed the guests in the “living room under the plane trees” in front of the church, consecrated in 1967. This designation was entirely appropriate. It was informal and idyllic, relaxed and without the hustle and bustle that is often known from open-air concerts. A few onlookers sat on the little wall facing Grünberger Strasse, a few children who – attracted by the music – had scrambled up the slope to the street.
The band DryHeart had already played at the premiere of the Summer Culture Church last summer. Many fans and repeat offenders came back to hear Johannes Klein (electric guitar), Paul Bugla (electric guitar, piano, vocals), Yannick Gessner (bass) and Felix Halfmann (drums) live. The four have been making music together since 2019. A CD is also being planned. There are already some tracks available for download on Spotify. The band plays technically brilliant with a clear sound and without being imposing in terms of sound. The program consists exclusively of their own pieces, inspired by models of classic rock, even if the music is sometimes quite “good”. The musicians also prove their delicate strings.
“Rocky” will continue next Thursday June 17th 2021, at 7:30 pm with “Organ rocks!” – Tour 6. Patrick Gläser plays works from rock, pop and film music on the church organ. There are only a few places left. Admission is free. registration under www.kulturkirche-giessen.de
